A secured credit card or a unsecured credit card? From my experience, I got an unsecured card which started out with a 0 credit limit and also had a fee for obtaining the card. Within a year the credit limit went up to 0 then I cancelled it when better offers came in % wise. That was a good start for me. But my bro-in-law is asking about secured credit cards? Which is better and will they both help rebuild your credit in the same way?

For the past 5 months of having this card, I've paid off the balance almost immediately after it showed up on my credit statement (I use online banking). But I want to know if this is the most effective way to build credit, or should i leave a balance and just pay my minimum? Which is more effective at building a higher credit score. Please help, any input is welcome, positive or negative.

I've been thinking about getting a secured credit card because I know it's already a must-have for emergencies or when short on cash. So I get SSI disability checks for almost twenty years, and wondered if it's possible for me to get a secured credit card. I need to do that in order to establish my credit and use it to pay whatever outstanding debts that may be owed to other people. How do I obtain a secured credit card while on SSI?
