Is the approval criteria different between getting a personal loan, line of credit, & credit card? Ex: If i did not qaulify for a personal loan, does that also mean i dont qaulify for a line of credit or credit card? This is so i can rebuild my fair credit to good credit over time.

Usually I throw out all the credit card offers I get in the mail, but I received one this week that is kind of different. It's visa card where they send you a dell laptop for signing up. Here are the strings:

You must transfer over 00 and maintain a minimum balance of 00 for 18 months.

I'm thinking of getting it because I have roughly 00 in credit card debt, I probably wouldn't be able to pay it off in 18 months any way. So why not get a laptop rather than pay my current cards interest and get nothing?

I'm pretty sure the interest rate is variable (like what I got now), but I think it's connected to the prime rate.

Has anyone taken this offer? How has it worked out for you?

My wife and I owe 3,700.00 on our credit card. At the end of January we will have the extra money to go ahead and completely pay off our credit card debt. We will continue to keep the card open and not cancel it but only keep it around for major emergencies only. My question is will our FICO score of be affected negatively by completely paying off our credit card
