Many companies will allow you to convert your existing card to another card.
When they convert the cards they do not require that you "apply" for the new card, though they "may" make a soft or a hard inquiry to check your reports.
Usually they use a soft pull and/or go by their internal records to see if you qualify for the type of card you want to convert to.
If you qualify for the type of card you want to convert to then they will convert the card.
The new card will carry the history of the old card. It will be as if the old card never existed on your reports but you will still have the 2 year history.
if they have to take an application for credit than that is what will happen. if they can just add the points program on to your existing card then you’ll be fine.
