    Picking up the signal and being able to use it are two different things. Usually receiving is more sensitive than sending. Also check the order in which past wifi connects are listed; changing their order may produce better results.

    If it always happens with the same networks it maybe that the router is stopping you from connecting to it and have nothing to do with your laptop.
