A debit card is some thing that is linked to your checking account and doesnt carry any interest. If you are looking for a prepaid visa or master card those are out there and yet they are still interest free. If you have a checking account ask your bank if they have a debit card with the visa or master card logo on it so that you can use it online. Other than that a great idea is a prepaid visa or master card with rechargable capability. Walmart has them. There may be a small fee associated with different pre paid credit cards but no interest. Basically there is a difference in a debit and credit card. As stated a debit card is linked to your bank account and a credit card (prepaid or normal) is not. Both can still have the visa or master card logo on them so that you can use them where ever visa or master card are accepted.

Debit cards are entirely different from what you’ve described. Go talk to someone who works in a bank.

A debit card is linked to a checking account or savings account. There is no monthly rate. I think you might be confusing this with a prepaid credit card, which would be "rechargeable" and carry a monthly fee. Go to your local bank and get a debit card linked to a bank account. It’s free that way, and you can still use it like a credit card for online purchases.

You may be talking about a Credit Card. A Debit card has no fees to it. Debit Cards bassicaly replace writing a check to someone. You may want to talk to a bank.

Go to your bank or join a credit union. Open a checking account and apply for a debit card. It should have a Visa or Mastercard logo on it. The charges will be drawn out of your balance in your checking account and the card can be used online like a credit card, but it really deducts from your deposit at the bank. If you need a little credit, the bank usually offers an optional overdraft protection line of credit, anywhere from $300-$1500.00. If you dip into this, you have to pay it back. It works similar to a revolving credit card and the whole balance doesn’t need to be paid off, but a minimum payment must be applied each month. My credit union provides free checking and free debit cards. It is free to use it at the store or online (known as point of sale), but there is a fee at the ATM machine. My line of credit charges 15% on the balance.

I haven’t been able to find any shopping help for you so you might have to make your own chart. But watch all fees. I’ve seen an annual fee in addition to a monthly fee, so watch for that. More than a monthly, I’d shop for transaction and recharge fees – by the time those add up, the monthly fee may seem insignificant.
My suggestion would be to first check with local banks and credit unions before shopping online. I don’t think you’ll find monthly fees much lower than $5.95 so shop the other fees more.
