Why do people use anything other than credit cards?

I only use credit cards anywhere they are allowed since my credit card gives me 3% cash back. It's a Chase Freedom card. I set it up to automatically take the payment out of my bank account every month so I don't have to worry about paying it. Using debt cards and cash where you could be using a credit card just seems like a waste to me. Are people just dumb or is there some other logic behind not always using reward credit cards?

Using credit is a good idea if you have the ability to pay it off every month without interest, and you know what your limits are and don’t exceed those. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to do poorly when using credit because they don’t quite view it as real money. People spend more than they have, buy things they normally wouldn’t buy if they were paying cash, and end up with maxed out cards and interest.

There are also a lot of people who can’t get credit, or who already have maxed out cards and don’t want to get more cards (or can’t get more cards.)

There are also people who simply don’t like the concept of credit cards at all, and prefer to work with what they have.

it only works if you pay it off every month, most people don’t have the discipline…

I wonder the same thing, I use 3 different cards all with cash back rewards for everything I buy every month except lunch and then pay them off in full before the due dates.

Love those cash back rewards, just got another one in the mail yesterday for $50.00.

That actually sounds pretty good I wish I could get that card. I only use cash and I pay all my bills and such on my debit card. The more I use my debit card I get rewards and my bank gives me cash back when I use it alot. I really want a credit card though but every time I apply I am denied I am 21 and just dont have really any credit. So feel free to write me back and let me know how I can get a credit card.

some people just don’t like getting screwed over for whatever reason it may be. Some people may not trust the bank enough to put their money in, especially with the way that things are now and many people just use credit cards for emergencies so that they don’t get into a habit of over using it and then going into debt.

Well I f*cked up my credit when I was 18, and cannot get a card in my name. I always try when you got those freebies given out. Like at a ballgame or something, I always figure if I cannot get the card at least i get a t-shirt out of it. I feel I’ve matured in the last several years, and would be a bit more responsible about it. I would love to get approved and then only use it for gas or something just to help build my credit. However, I couldn’t use it for everything like you do, cash back or not, b/c I just cannot afford to do so, and I know my limit.

Right now I do use debit for everything, I rarely keep cash on me. At least debit I cannot go over my limit cuz it just wouldn’t be approved.
