ways to improve credit score.?

can anyone tell me how long it takes for a credit score to improve.Right now i have fair credit somewhere in the 650 range.I don't have any debt's and owe nothing to anyone,i also don't have any credit cards.
I've been told that i can improve my score by using credit and paying it on time but because i've never had credit i can't seem to get approved for credit.

Any idea's?

Try First Premier, Orchard Bank, H.S.B.C. and Capital One they all offer secured and unsecured cards and report to all three credit bureaus.

Use them for every day things never exceed 30% of your credit limit and pay them off in full before the due date and in 8-12 months you should be able to get better cards and improved your credit score a lot.

do not get a credit card. That is not the answer. The more time that transpires between your last past due payment the higher the credit.

Precisely what Spifman said. Credit is a weird process, you almost need to already have it to get. Kind of like the job:experience ratio thing. Start with a student card (if applicable) or just get a secured card for a few hundred and keep it in tip top shape.

Get a card with a high APR that specialises in low credit rating people with NO annual fee, otherwise apply for the citi secured mastercard. My friend swears by it.
