Can i purchase and airline ticket with a prepaid visa card?

Im trying to travel to visit a friend and dont have a credit card. I was wondering if i can buy a prepaid visa card from cvs or walmart and purchase my ticket with the card?
And will i need my visa card when i go to the checkin counter at the airport?

it depends how the fare is cause you cant use two card (online) and you would have to first register
the card in your name and address
you could also just go a travel agency and pay them cash for a ticket (which might be cheaper
since you wont have to pay any activation fees with the prepaid visa card
