Mexico Health Care Will Be Accessible To Everyone

With these times of worldwide meltdowns and internal conflicts impacting Mexico, the commitment of universal healthcare has come as a silver lining in a dark cloud. As per a PBC.com report, the annual budget for the total healthcare plan in Mexico is believed to be about forty billion USD. Salomon Chertorivski, Mexico’s newest health minister talked about the Seguro Popular healthcare coverage plan. Seguro Popular or ‘popular insurance’ is directed at furnishing financial aid for health care to Mexican citizens.

This type of medical mexico plan is advancing in a very favorable way, as over 50 million citizens have already signed up for Seguro Popular. If this direction keeps up, the health ministry says that by December, it could achieve universal coverage, i.e. financial assistance for medical attention to every single citizen of Mexico. It was estimated that almost 50% of the population in Mexico did not have any type of health insurance coverage for medical emergencies. Only citizens with solid jobs had some kind of financial assistance to fulfill medical costs. However with the launch of Seguro Popular, Mexico health care will be available to everyone.

Challenges faced by the health ministry

There were several issues faced by the government in the fourteen month long process of planning and developing this insurance protection and accomplishing universal coverage. The 1st hurdle experienced was the quality of medical care provided in all hospitals in mexico. Homogenizing this quality by strengthening infrastructure and delivering essential medical services was initiated by constructing greater than one thousand centers and hospitals all around the country. The second complication to overcome was to provide ample preventive healthcare to lower the probability of contracting critical health problems because of neglect or absence of amenities.

Services and coverage under Seguro Popular

The Seguro Popular health care plan covers all costs for first aid such as seeing a doctor for minor injuries, allergies or diseases, and will also include the cost for medication. About 95% of situations where the patient is required to spend a night in the hospital will be covered. Routine procedures such as appendicitis or child birth will also be covered with the secondary care insurance. All types of terminal illnesses including cancer are going to be totally covered for individuals that are younger than 18. All health-related fees necessary to treat children younger than 5 is going to be taken care of by the Seguro Popular plan. All HIV affiliated treatments are also part of the coverage. This is without a doubt a competitive health coverage plan that can make why to live in mexico even more appealing to foreigners wanting to relocate to this tropical destination.

Universal coverage vs. global recession

The Mexican government is approaching medical care as an investment instead of an expense. By investing in better healthcare services for citizens, Mexico can plug some of the holes as far as financial instabilities are concerned. Salomon also said that the citizens will continue paying taxes to continue the healthcare services. The transition from curative to preventive healthcare is also viewed as significant as well as valuable over time.
